Has anybody here heard of Skype? If you haven't, go to the website and watch the short little Flash cartoon. It's adorable. You know me and British accents, though. But I digress.
Okay, say you want to keep up with friends or chat with your blog buddies. If you and your friends download Skype (it's just like AIM or Yahoo Chat), and you both have microphones, then you can call each other and chat anytime, for as long as you like, for nothing. My friend Bob turned me on to it because he lives in China and calling each other on traditional phones can be really expensive. My friend Liz is currently living in Australia and she and I can chitter-chatter back and forth using Skype and never worry about using all of the minutes up on our calling cards or anything like that. It's great.
Anyway I realized that there are a lot of you out there that might not have free long distance or maybe you've got relatives in other countries and I thought I'd point you towards Skype. It makes me happy. ;)
You can also purchase a special phone from Skype, and pay 2 cents a minute, and call anywhere in the world. This means, the person you're calling doesn't have to be sitting at their computer, and neither do you. You can call cell phones, or work phones, or any land line, and it will only cost 2 cents a minute for the caller. (The phone is connected to your internet line).
My boyfriend from Greece calls me anywhere, anytime, from his Skype account (so we chit chat while I'm at work for an inappopriate amount of time since I should be working, but let's be serious, work vs. boyfriend, boyfriend always wins...)

I've known about Skype for a couple of years at least. MVB Radio uses it to conduct interviews and guest stuff on its podcasts.
I used to have Firetalk installed on my computer so my best friend and I could talk, but they disappeared a long time ago. Let us know how well the Skype thing works and if they're protecting users from unwanted calls now. There are folks I'd love to chat with more. :-)
