Yes, yes, last Saturday. What? You're quite comfortable in your wee uteran nursery? You have no intention of moving? WELL. I'm sorry, young lady, but you're going to need to vacate the premises fairly soon before your mummy pops!
Now let me tell you something: I know that the Great Big World might seem a little frightening and you might want to stay inside for as long as possible, but oh boy are there a LOT of people that can't WAIT to meet you. Grandma Fran and Grandpa Nelson have come all the way down from North Carolina to see you. Grandpa Guy is on pins and needles waiting for your wee entrance into the world...and Grandma Cecilia would like to be put on record as requesting to be known as "Janou". Yeah, it's from An Affair to Remember. Your mom and I think it's pretty silly too. ;) Don't worry, you don't really have to call her that. You could call her Goober and she'd love it.
...on second thought I wouldn't call her Goober. That probably wouldn't work. But I digress. (As I will for the rest of your life. I'm really good at it.)
Your Daddy Chris has put together the most beautiful nursery in the world for you, Princess Sophie. You're going to be so happy there! I can't wait to babysit you and rock you in your new glider. I can't wait to change your poopy diapers on your pretty new dresser.

Where was I? Oh yes. We're all so very excited about meeting you, Sophia! As for me, I can't seem to be still. I can't keep a thought in my head, I can't stay focused on any one task for an extended amount of time...I can't stop fidgeting. I don't want to take pictures, I don't want to blog, I don't want to work...I just want to see your face! I want to see your wee fingers and toes and see which parent you favor and hear you holler when you're hungry and smell your sweet baby head.
I know I shouldn't complain. I'm not the one having to lug you around for 9+ months. But STILL! I've been friends with your Mummy since we were kids and if someone had grabbed me at age 14 and said "Someday Ceale's going have a kid and you're going love it more that anything, even before it's born" I would have laughed my ass off. Boy would I have been wrong.
Don't say "ass", it's not a nice word. Oh hell, I'm going to have to clean up my language. Shit. Okay that's the last one.
Listen, kiddo, you've got me wrapped around your little (very little!) finger. I can't wait to take you on adventures and teach you about bugs and show you Star Wars and play you The Beatles and all sorts of stuff. But don't think that I'm going to let you be a brat. I'm going to uphold whatever your parents say. Just because I adore you doesn't mean that I'm going to undermine Mom and Dad. Having said that, I will always be here for you. There is absolutely NOTHING that you won't be able to say to me...when you learn how to talk. If there's ever anything that you feel squeamish asking your parents, feel free to come on by my house. I'll talk about anything. At length. You'll probably regret asking after the first hour. Heh.
Okay that's enough chit-chat for now. I'm waiting to hear from your mom. She's got another doctor's appointment this afternoon to check on your status. Couldn't you please do something for us? A little dilation? A few contractions? Just not too many, let's go easy on Mommy, okay? She's been so good these past nine months. She and I may not have been born as biological sisters, Sophie, but I can't imagine my life without her. She is as much my family as my own mom and dad, (who are also waiting quite patiently for Your Highness!).
I love you, Sophia Cecile. Patience is not one of my virtues, but I'm doing my best to wait patiently for you! (By the way, I'm failing miserably.) See you soon!!!

My niece and nephew both arrived "late"---though from their point of view, I'm sure they were right on time. ;-) And yeah, watching the "hells and damns" (not to mention the "asses") is sometimes challenging, but you'll have time to modify your colorful language before the kid is old enough to understand. :-) Then when she's older you can teach her to cuss like a proper southern belle and say, "Shee-iit!" ;-)
